One year after Joanna Macy's passing

we gather in gratitude for a life whose influence continues to ripple across the world. At a time when so many are searching for ways to remain upright amidst ecological collapse, political upheaval, war, and profound uncertainty, Joanna's teachings have never felt more essential. For more than six decades, she devoted herself to helping us meet the crises of our time not with denial, but with greater courage, deeper belonging, and a love expansive enough to include all life.

Joanna reminded us:

❥ grief is the measure of our love

❥ that hope is not something we have but something we practice

❥ and that our lives become meaningful when we discover ourselves as participants in a living, interconnected world.

The Work That Reconnects is one of Joanna's greatest gifts to humanity:

a body of practices and a worldview that have helped countless people transform overwhelm into participation, isolation into community, and despair into a renewed capacity to act. It is not simply a body of ideas, but a way of remembering who we are and what this moment asks of us.

On the first anniversary of Joanna's passing, we gather not only to remember her life but to continue the living conversation she spent her lifetime nurturing.

This is a Homecoming: a return the profound kinship with the Earth and one another that she spent her life helping us remember. Whether you knew Joanna personally, studied with her for decades, recently encountered her work, or simply feel drawn to gather with others seeking a life of greater purpose and belonging, you are warmly welcome.

This gathering is offered freely by the School for the Great Turning, and Joanna always reminded us that the Great Turning was never the work of one person, but of countless ordinary people discovering their capacity to love, to serve, and to participate in the healing of our world.Come as you are. Together we will honor Joanna's life by remembering what she taught us so faithfully: that we belong to one another, to the Earth, and to the Great Turning itself.

How will we honor Joanna?

Through song, poetry, stories from Joanna's remarkable life, guided reflection, and practices from the Work That Reconnects, we will honor the woman who shaped so many of our lives while also asking an essential question:

How do we continue embodying the courage, imagination, compassion, and fierce love she so beautifully modeled?

Let’s Gather to Share:
